Wasabi by morimoto ranked 46th in Asia’s 50 best restaurants 2018. It sounds a bit incredible to eat Japanese food in India, but since Iron Chef Morimoto is in charge, it doesn’t hurt to try it. This restaurant in Mumbai was opened by Morimoto and Oberoi, the retired chef of Taj Mahal Hotel. It is a combination of traditional and modern Japanese cuisine. The following are the dishes for two people: The first Amuse Bouche: Sakura Ebi, Goma tofu, edamame. Fried shrimp and sesame tofu are both great! White fish carpaccio I always like carpaccio. This one tonight can be regarded as a very heavy taste. The sauce is very rich and the fish is very fresh. The other one is Zuke Maguro. The sauce is the same as carpaccio, thick and rich with a little sweetness. It is paired with tuna, cherry tomatoes, avocado, and shiso flowers, and has a rich taste. Fried dumplings, with a thin layer of skin, are crispy, and the filling inside is very juicy. The chopped green onions on top make it very fragrant! Duck burger, with two slices of shiitake mushrooms as the burger skin, duck meat, and rich gravy! A very unique and delicious dish! Sushi and soup: nigiri sushi, sushi roll, and then two kinds of sushi and miso soup were served. The sushi was a bit ordinary, but there was a crab leg soaked in the miso soup, which was very interesting. The main course was braised black code silver cod, which was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The dark soup had completely soaked into the fish meat. It was the first time I ate cod with such a dark color. Another main course was lobster, covered with a thick layer of roasted and fragrant cheese, but the only drawback was that the portion was not large. The main course came with truffle kamakeshi rice, a variety of mushrooms paired with truffle oil rice, which tasted very fragrant. The dessert was yuzu caramel chocolate with hojicha icecream. Yuzu caramel chocolate doesn't really go well together, yuzu is refreshing, while caramel is too sweet, but fortunately there is my favorite roasted tea ice cream! Another dessert is matcha bamboo eclair, served with warabi mochi icecream. Matcha-flavored finger puffs with fern ice cream, a perfect dessert! Overall, the ingredients are very common, and the presentation is ordinary, not exquisite. The taste is really good. I don't know if it's because of India, but each sauce tastes very solid. The color of the dish is very heavy, and the sauce is mainly brown-red, which is very unlike the usual fresh Japanese food. It feels like eating Chinese food. The portion is not large. The above dishes are for two people, and the price-performance ratio feels average.
